How Can I Prevent Accidents From Occurring?

On Behalf of | Apr 23, 2018 | Car Accidents |

As a driver in Marietta, you’re no doubt concerned with safety when out on the road. While you can’t always prevent accidents from occurring, there are steps you can take to decrease the chance of serious injury or damage to vehicles. Edmunds.com offers the following tips to ensure you and other drivers remain safe and secure when on the road.

1. Don’t Ignore Your Blind Spots

While your mirrors are useful when driving, they can’t catch everything. As a result, it’s recommended that drivers actually turn and look behind them to make sure there aren’t any vehicles in their blind spots. You should also be wary of straying into the blind spots of other vehicles, especially when it comes to large trucks and buses.

2. Make Sure Your Car Is Well-Maintained

The condition of your car can also have an impact on safety. Accordingly, make sure your vehicle undergoes regular maintenance, such as changing the oil, rotating the tires, and replacing the wiper blades when necessary. This will save you expense on your car and will also prevent a breakdown or crash from occurring.

3. Stay Out of the Fast Lane

The fast lane is intended for passing only, which means you should only ever drive in the fast lane when you’re passing other vehicles. Due to the high rates of speed, the fast lane is a hot spot for accidents and collisions. You also run the risk of being pulled over for speeding if you rely too heavily on the fast lane, and this can lead to costly tickets and even points on your license. It’s best to maintain a reasonable speed at all times and follow any posted traffic signs regarding the proper speed.
