Deadly wrong-way crash shuts down major highway

On Behalf of | Oct 5, 2016 | Car Accidents |

Being in a serious accident is a concern faced by many Georgia drivers. One of the biggest dangers occurs when people drive while fatigued. Multiple studies have shown that fatigued driving can be just as dangerous as driving under the influence of alcohol. The National Sleep Foundation states that in one national poll, the number of people who admitted to driving when they were in a drowsy state was 168 million people or 60 percent. When a fatigued driver causes an accident, the results can be fatal.

Authorities in Lowndes County suspect that a driver may have been fatigued when his car crossed over into a lane of traffic going the opposite way. Samples from the driver were taken to be analyzed, but authorities do not suspect that he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.

In all, three vehicles were involved. Four people were treated for injuries described as minor at a local hospital after their vehicle went off the road following a collision with the car that was initially hit. The driver of that car, a 70-year-old, and the driver traveling in the wrong direction died in the crash.

If a person is injured or killed in an accident, his or her family members may be left wondering how they are going to deal with the medical, financial and psychological aftermaths. Receiving fair compensation may ease these burdens, although money can never replace a person’s life or make an injury go away. People whose lives have been affected by a serious motor vehicle accident may wish to consult an experienced attorney.
