What should you do following a car accident in Georgia?

On Behalf of | Jan 26, 2016 | Car Accidents |

If you are involved in a car accident in Georgia, it is only natural to be scared. This is particularly true if you have never faced this situation in the past.

Before we go any further, remember this: Your health is more important than anything else. If you were injured in the accident, don’t attempt to move until medical help arrives.

Immediately following an accident, here are a few things you should do (as long as your health allows):

— Stay calm.

— Move your vehicle out of traffic if you are able to do so.

— Turn on your car’s hazard lights so that others see what is going on.

— Contact the police. This is a good step to take even if the accident was minor.

Along with the above, you should refrain from saying anything to the other party. There is nothing wrong with exchanging information, but don’t talk about what happened or admit fault. Furthermore, you should never sign a document unless the police request it.

Finally, don’t leave the accident scene until the police tell you it is okay to do so.

Since no two car accidents are the same, you never know which steps you will need to take. The best thing you can do is care for yourself first, and then deal with everything else second.

A car accident can be scary. A car accident can also lead to serious injury. When you know what to do in the event of an accident, you have a better chance of making all the right decisions.
