Biography

Upon graduating from Emory University in 1988 with an Anthropology degree, I took a year off from school and worked as a Congressional Aide to George "Buddy" Darden. After talking to Congressman Darden and my Uncles Sam and Mike Huff about their experiences as lawyers, I decided to go to the University of Georgia School of Law. Law was a family profession and tradition, with my Grandmother, Helen Huff, being the first female lawyer in Cobb County and with two of her four sons being long-time Marietta lawyers.

After graduating from the University of Georgia cum laude, I had the privilege of accepting a Staff Attorney position with then Cobb Superior Court Chief Judge Watson L. White. The experience was invaluable. Judge White embodies the term "judicial temperament" and his seasoned staff knew more about the legal system than most lawyers.

In 1994, I accepted a position in the Cobb County Attorney's office. In my three-year tenure as an Assistant County Attorney, I had the opportunity to represent the Planning and Zoning Department, Code Enforcement Division, Tax Board of Equalization, Tax Commissioner, Business License Division, Department of Transportation and the Board of Commissioners in state and federal litigation.

In 1997, Garvis Sams and Joel Larkin asked me to join their firm. They were frequent adversaries when I worked for the County and I knew it would be enjoyable working for them. After practicing with the firm for five years, I was invited to become a Partner in 2002. My practice allows me to tackle a wide range of problems for clients. I continue to use the experience from my Cobb County employment to represent individuals and businesses that have disputes with either county or municipal governments, be it property tax disputes, eminent domain issues for road projects, development disputes or acquiring alcohol licenses for restaurants and other businesses. Experience in development has also provided relevant experience for all forms or real estate litigation, from disputes over construction contracts, trespasses, erosion and boundary line disputes.
